Modifications

Added by EvilFlamethrowerModifications or Mods for short are third-party programs that are downloaded online from the internet that are meant to modify the way the game is played (in this case is the Emergency series). Most mods are for Emergency 4 (known as 911: First Responders in the Americas) because Emergency 4 comes with a built in editor tool and is more simpler than editing other games. Most mods are "real" mods. In general, these mods add real-life emergency units from real-life cities, for example Los Angeles, New York, Madrid, Berlin, London and more. Often, this involves the re-texturing of vehicles and creating of others. Other mods may just be bug fixes or enhancers.
How mods work
Edit
In Emergency 4/911: First Responders, mods are installed, usually with an installer and the installer tells where the original game is. Then, in the main menu screen, the mod can be activated through the "Modifications" option. Once these are activated, it may take some time to load. After that, the player should press "Play game" and will see the mod.
About modding
Edit
Please take note that if you really want to create your dream mod, you have to take a lot of considerations. Re-texturing may be simple, but other things may be more complex such as building models, scripting, etc. Do not expect to create a mod within a few hours, as most mods will take some months. You really will need a lot of patience and skill.
